1942 The operations of Sydenham Branch of W.LI. were suspended in favour of War Work from ‘ April, 1942 to April, 1943. Since word was then received from the F.W.I.0. that regular meetings . must be held or the W.1I. disbanded and its funds dispersed, the members voted to resume the | meetings, and a new slate of officers was elected. In 1943, the time of meeting was again changed, this time to the third Tue,. night of each month. A tag day was held and the proceeds sent to the "Jam for Britain" fund. Three hundred cigarettes each were sent to the local boys overseas. Publicity was given at meetings to the National Farm Radio forums. In April, 1944, a tag day was held and the proceeds divided between "Jam for Britain" and supplies for soldiers overseas. A donation was given to the Institute for the Blind. Money was . raised by proceeds of a canteen at street dances. Money was sent to the "Milk for Britain" fund. Financial support was given to the Central War Charities Fund. 1945 Mrs, 0. J. Lindsay, Mrs. G. Lewis, and later Mrs. C. H. Maybee, were appointed as representatives from Sydenham W.L. to meet with the Council re grants, etc., in regard to establishing a "Recreational Centre" for Sydenhan. Moneyâ€"making events were: a Tag Day, canteen at street dance. Expenditures in 1945 were made to: Overseas soldiers, local library Citizens‘ Band, Institute for the Blind, Milk for Britain, Jam for Britain, War Charities Fund, blankets for war work, Princess Alice Fund, Kingston General Hospital. ' Used woollen garments were gathered and shipped to a Company which gathered and shipped to a Company which made it into blankets from reâ€"claimed wool. A large number of warm, attractive blankets were secured in this manner. 14
