Sydenham W.I., on Mr. Sirett‘s suggestion, presented a shield to the Public School winning most points at the School Fair each autumn. A very successful course in Home Nursing, given by a Leader, Mrs. M. Lowe, of Toronto, was presented in ten evenings, with an average attendance of forty three members. In December 160 treats of cigarettes and candy bars were given for disabled soldiers. ‘ Four dozen chairs had been purchased for the Hall. 1920â€"21 The largest enrolment in its history, 83 members, was in 1920â€"1921. Money was raised by social evenings, catering to School Fair lunches, and producing a play. A series of four winter concerts presented by Chautauqua in the Town Hall was sponsored by the Women‘s Institute at a cost of $75 for the lst. and 2nd. concerts, and $70 for the 3rd. and Ath. On August 17th., 1921 an afternoon meeting was held on Mrs. Clarence Amey‘s lawn, attended by Westbrooke, Godfrey, and Mountain Grove Institure members for the purpose of organizing a District Institute. The officers elected to the first District Institute were as follows President â€" Mrs. W. Sirett, Portsmouth lst, Viceâ€"Pres. â€" Mrs. Wm. Clarke, Godfrey 2nd, Viceâ€"Pres. â€" Mrs. A. Rankin, Collins Bay Secretaryâ€"Treasurer â€" Mrs. R. J. Morley, Collins Bay. Each Branch elected its own Director. Sydenham‘s Director was Mrs. G. W. McNaughton. Money was spent on oranges for soldiers and a shield for Rural Fair Award to the Public Schools. Activities in 1922 were money donated for school prizes, Christmas toys and candy for needy children, bread tickets for destitute families. . 1922â€"23 Two medals were donated to the top Boy and Girl winners at the Public School Rural Fair. 9
