Miss Rhoda Hayward â€" & Of these, at the time of compiling this history, only 5 charter members survive. The fees in 1919 were 25¢, increased to 50¢ in 1948 and to $1. in 1964. The first Record Books covered a two year period, but in 1930 this was changed for a book which holds up to seven years records. The first meetings were held in the Town Hall, but soon were being held in the homes of the members. At present both places are used, depending on the type of meeting being held. 1919â€"1920 The welfare of the child has always been the chief aim of the Branch Institutes. One of the first efforts was catering to the School Fair lunches each fall. A District Institute was not organized for two years, in 1921, so there was no area convention, but delegates were sent to a large W.I. convention in Ottawa on Oct. 22nd. and 23rd., 1919. This was attended by Mrs., F. S. Ferguson of Inverary, who acted as delegate for Sydemham and area. At this time there were just four Branches in the District, â€" Sydenham, Inverary, Mountain Grove and Westbrooke. Sydenham W.I.‘s first project was to purchase chairs for the Township Hall at $22 per dozen. (4do=zen ) On June l6th., 1920 Mrs. W. Sirett entertained the members at her home in Portsmouth. Plans were made for a picnic to be held Aug. Lth., 1920, at Lakes‘s Point on Sydenham Lake, to . which the other Institutes of the District were invited. This was a very successful event with around one hundred in attendance. 7
