K ‘ ; woMEN‘s INSTITUTE BRANCH : FORMED AT MONETVILLE AUG. I2f 1949 Outgrowth of the Monetville War Relief Workers Club, a new branch of the Women‘s Institute was formed here, on Aug. I2, 1949, to be known as the No#th Star Branch as ‘ the community is situated at the highway crossroads which separate Sudbury and Nipâ€" issing Nistricts. The Monetville War ReliefsWorkers Club was active in all phases of war work, especially in raising funds to send boxes to men from the community who were serving overseas. Following ‘the end of hostilities a fund was started for a memorial auditoâ€" rium but when no suitable site could be settled on the club was disbanded. A plaque was secured bearing the names of all who served. Seventeen women met for the organization meeting at the home of Mrs. Hubert W. Tawrence Sr. The meeting was attended by the W. I. organizer for Sudbury district, Mrs. H. Williams, of Garson, and Mrs. y ' J.Hamilton, of Capreol. Mrs. Williams outlined the aims and Â¥ objects of the institute. 9 ; & The following officers were elected : ¢ President, Mrs., Hubert Lawrence Sr. Firstâ€"viceâ€" president, Mrs. 0. J.
