people is needed to help make better Citizens for this Canada of ours. Good Citizens 2921. play a part in shaping the future. _ All eligible students of Merivale High School, on the outskirts of Ottawa, were offered the opportunity to ior"sTtshti Canadian Citizenship certirice.tes. The staff ass also ihg2uded in this project. The idea originated with a staff meshes, Mr. 5. E. McTonaid, who thought such an undertaking would focus attention on the privileges and responsibility es of Citizenship. Plans were starteo early in bept. 1966. The Students first had to obtain a Birth or Baptismal oertirusate, after which they completed and turned in Citizens ship application forms. This was completed by Nov. 30th 1966, and on Jan. 3rd. l967 . the first day of school in the New Year, our Centennial year-- the presentations were made to 592 persons, all but thirty-five being students. These thirtpdive were teachers, office and maintenance staff. Presentation Was made by Miss Judy La Harsh, our Sect. of state, who said anti at this tine, ”These certificates are your opportunity to partici- pate to the maximum of your individual abilities in the benefits which come from being a member of a Democratic Society." A sense of deep pride in Canadian citizenship seemed to be felt by all. These students now have a tangible form in the shape of a Certificate which they may keep and treasure. And so it behOOVes all of us to value our citizenship in this wonoerful country of ours, and to be thankful that we are able to do so.
