In this our Centennial Year, much sentimental “Looking Backward" has been going on, as well as "Looking Forward“ with strong hopes for our second hundred years of Confeder- atdon. I thought this might be s good times to take a quick look backward, to the several schools in the Glen Orchard area, which have been the educational beginning for quite a few of our present citizens. To begin with, I understand the first school was a log building, erected eighty odd years ago, which stood just north of our present W.l. Hall. Mr. Ed. Gostick was a teacher there. Dr. Kalbfleiscn started to make alterations, and add to the school, in order to make it into a small Guest home, which they hoped to operate. however, kan- 321:, unfortunately, Hrs. Kahtsfleisrrth, became ill, and passed away, before this could take place. Mr. Will -Ferguson, her brother, bought the place and continued with the alterations, and did operate it as was first planned. After his death, Mrs. Spence, his daughter continued on with it, until it was sold to the present owners. School if 4, was a sturdy brick building, erected in 1938. T1ilis was used until 1958, when consolida- tion of schoolsin Medora & Wood Township took place. This school then became the Town- ship Offices for Medors ik Wood. To-day, education takes 5 prominent place in the life of all of? us. We were justly proud of our Consolidated School when it opened in Oct. 1958. Now, after nine years of use, an amount of $200.000 has been asked for, in order to build an additional five rooms These will have folding partitions between, so that when necessary, two or more rooms can be opened into one. I have been given to understand, the Government will pay 53% of the amount, and we the tax payers, will no doubt be called upon to take care of the balance.
