IN MEMORY OF MRS. MARY HARDY Mrs. Dorene Jennings and I have worked very hard over the last few years to complete our Tweedsmuir History Book which was the huge task Mrs. Mary Hardy, our First History Curator, set out for us. It was her dream that one day we would have all her memories of the pioneer families and all the news clippings she had saved placed in the Book she had originally started. Due to her failing health at the time that I first met her and began working on her dream, we were not able to have it completed before she passed away. Today, we have done as much as we can do as our Women‘s Institute will be finally coming to it‘s end in May of 2012. I hope we have done Mary proud! There have not been a lot of major changes here in Glen Orchard over the years, perhaps a few new homes and faces but we still have the Glen Orchard Store (owned by Denis Bell) and the Smithy (still owned by the Church family) and the Public School. Glen Orchard remains a quiet and pretty little community in a perfect location, being only minutes away from Port Carling, Bala and Mactier: within a half an hour‘s drive to bigger locations such as Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and Parry Sound ... It has been a pleasure living here and it is our hope that in some small way, ourWomen‘s Institute has helped preserve the heritage of our beautiful community of Glen Orchard ...
