Coltman Attendend Colborne Branch 40th Anniversary. Mrs. N. Chatten attended 80th Anniversary of F.W.1.C. Tapestry displayed on Summary Day. Mrs. Doug Chapman prepared House Log for Tweedsmuir Competition. Also an Afghan made by several members. Friendship Tablecloth signed by members in Artex paint sent to England. Mrs. C. Dallison became District President and Mrs. S. Pearson District convenor of Citizenship. 1978 â€" 1979 President â€" Mrs. N. Chatten Secretary â€" Mrs. C. Dallison Treasurer â€" Mrs. Doug Chapman Fees were raised to $2.00. Highlight of this year was a Special meeting held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Chatten on July 5th, and was planned to especially welcome the first visitor from our English Link Branch Churston â€" Galmpton W.1I., Devon England. Mrs. Sarah Perring along with her husband Mark were vistiting relatives in Canada and the United States, and while in Canada extended their visit to include a 6 day stay in Brighton area. This was the first opportunity Community W.I. had to welcome a member from England, although 2 of Community Branch members had visited the link with their husbands. They were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shephard in 1965 and Mr. and Mrs. C. Dalliâ€" son in 1975, and both had spoken of the wonderful welcome they had received. Husbands of members also attended this function. Special guests were the Community Hill Toppers 4K Club. Members who gave their display and commentary from a previous unit. "The Cereal Shelf" which was entitled "Corn" showing 5 different uses of corn in everyday use in our homes, Pop Corn, Corn Flakes, Corn Oil, Corn Syrup and Cornmeal. Following the brief business meeting all adjourned to the outdoors where everyone enjoyed barâ€"bâ€"qued hamâ€" burgers and hot dogs, tea or cold drinks, tarts and squares. While visiting with several members Sarah and Mark Perring were taken to various local places of interest. Community Branch havye continued to raise funds by catering, White Elephant sales, and Applefest participation. Gifts presented to speakers, retiring presidents, 4H Girls, Short Course and 4H Leaders. Blankets have been given to Fire Victims. We have participated in short Courses, sent Delegates to conventions. $5.00 is sent to our Foster Child at Christmas. Doanations have been made to Mental Health, Multiple Sclerosis, Erland Lee Homstead, 75th Anniversary Fund, Save the Sight, Pennies for Friendship etc. ‘ The 4H Girls attend one meeting with their skits and displays. For several years the December meeting has taken the form of a Pot Luck Dinner with exchange of gifts and gifts for Golden Plough Lodge.
