The members began work on the Tapestry designed by Nunzia D. Zavi depicting the history of Brighton. First reading of the Byâ€"Laws for Community Branch was given at the December meeting. Members visited and toured the Golden Plough Lodge and took gifts. Gift to Devon, an Aluminum Tray with Map of Canada engraved. Each member received a postcard Calendar. The Tapestry was completed and was on display at the Parliament Building in Toronto. A Centennial Tea and Display of Antiques was held in the Legion Hall with the Tapestry on display for the first time to the Brighton Area Citizens. Mrs. Zavi who had been in Hospital and confined to her home for months was able to attend and view the . final results of her efforts. In February the Byâ€"Laws were given the final reading and passed. 1967 â€" 1968 President â€" Mrs. J. Tapestry was rented out for display at Trenton Professional and Business Women‘s Tea and also at Cobourg. It was on display at the District Annual. "Heritage of Canadian Handcrafts" was presented to the New Library. Canadian Cook Book sent to Devon. Beautiful scenic towels received and raffled among the members Mrs. M. Bulman elected District President. 1968 â€" 1969 President â€" Mrs. Lyle Chatten Secretary â€" Mrs. Pearson Treasurer â€" Mrs. Coffee The Tapestry was presented to the Public Library in Brighton. A motion was passed to review the Byâ€"Laws every two years. Heritage of Canadian Handcrafts sent to England. Book received, During the 25 years money has been ratsed by Euchres, Dances, Travelling Duck, Quilts made and sold or raffled. Bazaars, Teas, Catering to weddings, teas, luncheons and dinners. Bake Sales, Rummage Sales, Birthday Box, sale of Spoons and Cards and donations. Donations have been made to â€" Jam for Britain, Princess Alice Foundation Fund, Prisoner of War Boxes, Tamblyn‘s Food for Europe, Red Cross, Adelaide Hoodless Fund, Salvation Army, Brighton Church Organ Memorial Fund, Christmas Seal Campaign, C.A.R.E., Cobourg Rotary to assist Crippled Children, Hospital for Stck Children, United Nations Appeal, 0.5.D., Canadian March of Dimes, Manitoba Flood Relfef, Blind Institute, Cairn at Peace Garden, Polio Foundation, Hurricane Flood Relief, Mrs. M. Chatterson Fund, 2nd Brighton Cubs and Scouts, United Church Building Fund, World Refugee Year, Burned out Families, Mental Health, Jamaica Fund, Multiple Sclerosis Fund, Pennies for Friendship, International Scholarship, National Foundation, U.N,E.S.C.0. #367, Lfons Club, Building Fund for Brighton Library, Cairns at Spring Valley and Cramahe Schools, Retarded Children, Coupon #390, Brighton Library for furnishings, Heart Fund, Cancer Fund, McDonald College and Xmas gifts for adopted child, Save the Children Fund, Lois Morgan Fund. Community Branch has had printed programs since its organization. The cost has risen from $3.50 in 1944 to $13.78 in 1964. Delegates have attended district annuals and Area Conventions each year. Since 1953 delegates have . been sent to the Officers Conference annually. Each year members have been remembered with gifts and flowers when i11l or bereaved, or on the arrival of a new baby. Since 1946, with the exception of 4 years, Community has sponsored a 4H Club. These have varied from one to three clubs. Each Provincial Honour Girl has received an award. The Leaders and assistant Leaders of these Clubs have been given a remuneration. Every year since the beginning of Community Branch a short Course or Extension Course has been held, or the members participated in one sponsored by another Branch. The Leaders of these courses have been presented with gifts. Also each Past President is remembered with a Cup and Saucer. At more than one half of the monthly meetings held, there has been a guest speaker, demonstration or some special event. Members have assisted with many canvasses for Blind, Cancer etc. Last but not least one very faithful member, Mrs. W.T.D. Fritz has been in charge of Tweedsmuir History since 1952 and was appointed Curator in 1965. These have been the achievements of Community Branch for the past twenty five years.
