On August 23 several members were privileged to attent Canada Day in honour of the Triennial Conference of A.C.W.W. held in Maple Leaf Gardens. A 2nd Vice president was elected for the first time â€" Mrs. Harold Morgan. Forty chairs were loaned for the W.1. Bqnth at the plowing match. Members alsa donated cookies and helped to serve. $5.00 sent to English Link for Xmas. Picture of the Queen donated by Mrs. Webster and framed by Mr. Reid was placed in Township Hall. Catered to Warden‘s Banquet and netted $226.00 . ‘ 1954 â€" 1955 President â€" Mrs. S. Cassan Sec‘y Treas. â€" Mrs. J. Whitehouse Twenty dollars from each Branch for a period of 5 years was given to set up a Scholarship for 4H girls. Tenth Anniversary observed at the June meeting, when the Charter members were presented with a rose. On August 24th Mrs. Norman Chatten was made a Life Member. Members were asked to pay 12¢ for the Home and Country. $5.00 sent to the Link in England. Each member of Community received a handkerchief. Motion was passed to hold the meetings in the afternoon during the months of January, February and March. 1955 â€" 1956 President â€" Mrs. Rome Sec‘y Treas â€" Mrs. Whitehouse The 4H Girls were each presented with a teaspoon. This custom was followed for sereral years. Bus trip to Kingston was taken by members. 1956 â€" 1957 President â€" Mrs. Rome Sec‘y Treas â€" Mrs. Coffee Branches were asked for $50.00 to be paid over a period of 3 years toward Museum Fund. Quilt was made and raffled for Historical Society. This brought $28.25. Scrap Book containing pictures of homes, families and places of interest was compiled and sent to Devon. Catered to Achievement Day. This has become an annual event. On Feb. 28th was Hostess to the 60th Anniversary gathering to honour the Founding of the Women‘s Institute. There were. 90 present from York Road, Codrington and White‘s School. Mrs. Jas Haggarty, Prov. Pres. was present. A layette was made and entered in the Salada Tea Competition. A trip to Trenton and tour of Benedict Proctor and Downs and Coulter followed by a Picnic lunch at Hanna park was enjoyed by the members. A new Speaking Cup base procured and the old name plates placed on a plaque and hung in the Township Hall. Plaque made by Stewart Kilbank and Mrs. J. Whitehouse made the Institute Crest. Mrs. Whitehouse became District Secretary. 1957 â€" 1958 President â€" Mrs. Harold Morgan Sec‘y Treas â€" Mrs. Harold Coffee The layette received first prize at the District Annual and was donated to the Home for Retared Children at Plainfield. A tour of the Experimental Farm was taken followed by a picnic lunch at Presqu‘ile, The prize at . Brighton Fair was changed from Chocolate Cake to Taffy Tarts. Layettes were made for Ceylon. 1958 â€" 1959 President â€" Mrs. H. Morgan Sec‘y Treas â€" Mrs. E. Coltman Hostess to District Annual. Served lunch at Brighton Fair, 101 visitors registered in the guest book from as far as Brantford and Nova Scotia. A bus trip taken to Peterboro and tour of Quaker Oats Plant, Tweedsmuir History Book received second prize at the Area Convention. A Gavel and Stand made from Canadian Maple by Stewart Kilbank was sent to Churston Inst. In lieu of remuneration Mr. Kilbank requested that a donation be given to the Scouts and Cubs. Community received an English Cook Book,. The Health Nurse requested help for a family at the Christmas season and a donation of $15.00 was given. A Scrap Book was received from Devon also, Used clothing was collected for a needy family. The 15ht Anniversary was obseryed by presenting the Charter Members and the Past Presidents with corsages. Mrs. J.C. Miller composed music and song for the Competition,. 4H Provincial Honour Girls presented with gifts.
