The‘u‘v: ‘I% * A two nearest secondary schools were at Port Perry, 6 miles distant, or _f . at Bownmanville, 12 miles distant. In Sept. 1922,by the permission of the Department of Education, two forms were accommodated in the town hall. 1924 â€" Bach school section dealt with the idea of building a Continuation school and the vote was against it. However, in spite of this oppositiqn, a poll was held on a byâ€"law to permit the building of the school. Thié"l' byâ€"law was passed_' but, the newly elected school board of 3 members had % a majority opposing the school. Their election was protested on the grounds that some of the voters lacked proper credentials to vote. A ! éx:‘ A new eclection was held and this board voted for the new school. The \ To Council also blocked the movement at first but finally consented to issue a debenture. é f‘ 1925 â€" The corner stone was laid for the new Continuation School Building. * The site chosen was about the centre of Blackstock village on the west side of Scugog Road. George Mclaughlin, a native son of Blackstock, was the contractor and the school consisted of two large classrooms, a teacher‘s room and a basement. The school opened in Sept. 1925. with } two teachers to instruct the pupils as far as Junior Matriculation. The * school‘s status was a Grade B Continuation School.. 1938 â€" With George Crawford, another native son,as contractor, two class rooms, a Home Economics room, a Shop room and an office and Library combined were added.
