When a farm family leaves from the area to live in another pan of Canada, the community never seems just the same. When they come back to visit, it makes for a lot of visiting and reminiscing with relatives and friends. 59/" '771' Last week George and Lillian Hewitt of Melford, Saskatchewan came back to the fore of Downie and Zorra to stay for a couple of weeks with Lillian's sister, Alma Wilker- son. The last time they visited was in 1988. Since arriving many people have called on them and they have visited other folks. In 1935,George HewittandLillian Morris were married. After the wed- ding, Lillian just had to walk to the next farm where they were going to live and start farming. After many years they suffered the loss of their barn so they sold to Fraser and Mary Monteith. The Hewitts then moved to the lst line of Zorra. From there to another farm to St. Pauls where George worked at Avonbank Cheese and Butter Fac- tory and at Gar?eld Coulthards and they became involved in Avonton Church. Then in 1977 the Hewitts along with son Reid moved to Medford, Saskatchewan to be with their daugh- ter Margaret Fraser and family. They purchased 1,000 acres and rented or did custom work on another 2,000 acres. The crops were great for a few years but then one year they lost the whole crop to frost. Another year, 400 acres of barley had been put in a heap on the prairie and with no sale. it spoiled. ' Now they are retired in Melford. They have sold the land and Reid is now a truck driver. On Saturday while at Alma's, George was asking about folks in the Avonton area he had met while play- ing ball or farming like Harold Mur- ray,Tom White and Robert] .
