Wednesday April 1 / 1992 3 Donating corn for Third World... involving the entire com- munity just south of Strat- ford. Many country residents in a four-mile radius of Brooksdale, get involved in the undertaking. Again this year, corn has been bagged at the farm of Allan and Carol Innes, of RR 2 Embro, to be shipped to Mozambique. Those working on the pro- ject hoped to fill 11 containers in about six days. Each con- tainer holds 18 metric tonnes, so the total collected could be approximately 200 tonnes. About seven or eight volun- teer men per day are needed to load and handle the corn. Mrs. Innes made hot meals for the men and if help was needed, the neighbors nearby pitched in. The corn to be shipped in- cludes both corn donated by Ontario producers and corn purchased with cash dona- tions. Ten church groups are partners in the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, a unique non-profit agency which mat- ches grain collections with needs from Third World countries. ' Grain and cash donations to the bank are matched three to one by the Canadian Interna- tional Development Agency at the time of the shipment. Any donations for corn are still welcome and will be for- warded to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank head- quarters in Winnipeg.
