The Ingersoll Times, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1992 ' By MYRA FIELD The current ?oral watercolor display showing at the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre is the work of Susan Hewitt Graham. The local artist has created a delicate yet dramatic display of ?ower works that are larger- 'than-life images of natural beauty. . Captivating and enduring. the various color transparencies ?ow together to provide the full visual effect, more perfect than nature itself. ' Hewitt Graham has been paint» ing in various mediums. includ- ing watercolor, oil and acrylics, since high school. '1 have been painting for what seei-ns like forever," she said. "I was asked to specialize for this show at the Creative Ans Centre Susan Hewitt Graham stand with her ?oral watercolor display at the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre. (Myra Field photo) 'sO'l chose watercolor ?owers." Juggling a teaching career at West?eld Public School in lngersoll with her artistic talents appears to be no problem for this young artist. At present, she calls Dorchester home where she keeps a beautiful ?ower garden on hand to keep the creative juices ?owing and new ideas growing. . After art school in Ottawa, she chose to continue her education at the University of Western Ontario In London with a Each- .elor of Ads degree In ?ne arts. This is the ?rst show for Hewitt Graham at lngersoll' 5 arts centre _.Her ?rst showings .took place. as early as l989 while she was still In Ottawa. Her works have been on dis- play with the Ottawa Art Associ- ation, Ottawa Little Theatre. and Alta Vista Library. Her solo shows at A Source of Art Gal- lery, Perth County Gallery in St. Marys, Dorchester Church. Gibson Gallery Summer Series, and a special showing at the Oxford County Board of Education in 1991, complete a full palette for this busy woman. "I have been known to take a' year off here and there just to paint," she said. Working out of her studio at home. her current show includes "Gladiolus Bouquet," "Potted Plants," 'Briar Rose," and "Summer Bouquet." Through a variety of tech- United- Iiiques, the paintings vary great- ly in mood and spirit. The holder watercolors outlined in dark ink create a three-dimen- sional character to the subtle beauty of the 'Amaryllis' paint- Ing. Strong, deep colors speak of softness and the drama of the moment. Soft, whimsical colors flow to create a gentle glow as if sunlight were constantly pres- ent. In total, 18 works of water- color ?owers have been com- bined in the bouquet for the showing that runs through to Nov. 22. The centre is openFridays, Saturdays 'and Sundays, 2-4 p.m. Zorra holds line on budget . .. Zorra Township has three Optimist Clubs. Embro West Zorra Thamesford and Kintore. Z 0 R R A T O W N S H l P --The event that stands out most in the mind of Jim Gibb, mayor of the Township of Zorra, for 1992 is the 100th an-- , niversary cele- = lf'ratgon ofT the am to own Hall on Labour Gibb Day. The celebration followed exten- sive restoration work in which council was deeply involved. "It was quiteanevent," Gibb said. Zorra Township Council also be- came involved in a matter beyond its usual scope of interest and be came an active participant in a continuing round of discussions be- tween a major local industry and provincial officials -- to the benefit of all concerned. * Otherwise 1992 was a marked by few highs and lows.yea . Council voted to rescind its En- glish-only stand. seen by many as a positive step. And Gibb would like to commend township staff on "holding the line on the budge ." Zorra started the year with over half the council new. In the past, a new councillor usually "sat back and observed" for a long time. Gibb said this council has not had that luxury. "It's been inter- esting seeing them get into their new roles and duties. It certainly has beena challenge. " /97£/
