PICTON BRANCH WOMENS INSTITUTE There had been an Institute branch in Picton in the early I9OOIs, but it had disbanded in I9I9. In I963 an urge was felt again for Institute work . in Picton. Mrs Earl Onderdonkm member Rednersville W‘.I. and President of Prince Edward District, attended a meeting of interested women who had gathered at the home of Miss Florence Barber on Queen Street. She outlined the work and activities of W.I. and told some of the duties of the various officers. The Picton ladies decided to organize and after the proper advertising the organizational meeting was held in the Agriculture Board Room, Elizabeth Street, on February 7, I963, at 8 p.m.. Mrs T. Pick was elected President of the first slate of Officers. Mr. Pick was posted out of town in May this same year, and of course, Mrs. Pick followed. The first vice president, Mrs. L. Gribble, stepped up to the presidentk\. But her husband had already been posted to waterloo, so at the June Meeting Mrs. Pierce Jones was appointed acting President. She was elected President in I96h, and held that office until April, I967.
