On hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony was Donald Bond, chairman for the Prince Edward Region ‘. Conservation Authority; Jack Wells, Warden of Prince Edward County; George Foster, Reeve of Sophiasburgh; Rev. Robert Jones, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Picton; James A. Conservation Authorities Branch, Ministry of Natural Resources. Two Sophiasburgh Central Public School students, Kathy Pearsall and Helena Bulpit, presented a time capsule to Mr. Bond. The capsule was filled with a. signed students’ list; a Signed staff list; a school 75 percent pin; a school crest; newsletters from throughOUt the the year and Other \ mementoes students donated. James Taylor said he was delighted to be at a gathering where there was so many people gathered for a: conservation cause. Mr, Burgar expressed thanks for the co-operatio,1 of the township in the Construction of the dams “Conservation Authority is a partnership between the municipality and the provincial governments. The dam represents an example of local and provincial interests being served by the authority,” he said. The Demorestville dam holds two million gallons of water. Since Demorestville has been troubled with wane]r . storages this supply will haVe many uses, including fire fighting. At the end of his comments, Mr. Burgar declared the dam open.
