GIL ERTS MILLS W.I. Tours 1973 Car Tour â€" The members of Gilberts Hills W.I. held a picnic at Riverside Park on the Moira in Belleville in place of our August meeting. His. Boy Brooks and Mrs. R. Benway were our capable drivers. Loaded with good things to eat, we stopped at the Dixie Lee and purchased chicken to accompany our many dishes. After lunch we journeyed to the O'Hara hill Conservation Area. It was unfortunate for us the buildings were closed, but we had a pleasant tour of the grounds and nature trails. On the way home we stopped at the Lester Pearson Peace Park, bringing a pleasant day to a close. 1977 Bus Trip â€" For our bus trip we hired MCGinnis' bus to take the members and their guests to Upper Canada Village. It was August 10th and we had had a very dry summer, but the clouds burst that day and the rain came down steady. Our bus broke down on the 401 and we were delayed an hour and a half before our arrival at the historic village of Canada's pioneer era. Those who didn't have umbrellas or rain wear dressed themselves in garbage bags and plastic to brave the rain. Here we visited over forty buildings, homes, churches, mills, taverns, shops, which had been restored and refurbished With paintaking accuracy, to depict the life of an early Canadian village. Our bus brought us home safely where we stopped in Kingston for supper to end an interesting day. 1979 Bus Trip - On Wednesday, July 18, members and friends of the Gilberts Hills W.I. enjoyed a bus trip to Peterborough. Upon arrival they were met b§ a guide from the Chamber of Commerce and taken on a tour of the city, seeing the main industries, old homes and churches, and a view of the city from the Memorial Park Laahout. They drove through Riverview Park Zoo and an attendant came on the bus to show a large Boa snake. A drive through the grounds of Trent University was also taken. Members were taken to the downtown shopping mall for an hour and the time there was spent on shopping and lunch. They then took the Cruise Boat for a boat ride through the Trent Canal and two lift locks. That was a three hour trip. At five o'clock there was a smorgasboard dinner at the Rock Haven Motor Inn. Acting as bus driver for the trip was Tom May of McGinnis Coach Lines.
