50th ANNIVERSARY GILBERTS' MILLS INSTITUTE A delightful afternoon tea was held Wednesday, October 22, 1958, at Doxsee's Church to celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of Gilberts' Mills Institute with an attendance of seventy. Members from two of the branches could not attend. The table at the front of the church was very attractive, draped with a white damask cloth, centred with the anniversary cake which was decorated in the Institute colours, blue and gold. There were yellow mums in gold candlestick holders, along .with gold and blue streamers completing the table decorations. Throughout the church were beautiful mums of yellow and gold and there was also a beautiful plant in yellow bloom. In the absence of our Presidents, Mrs Harold Cross, the guest were received at the door by the two Vice-Presidents, Mrs Clarence Calnan and Mrs George Benway. Mrs George Benway and Mrs Willieam Orsborne presided at the signing of the register. Mrs Clarence Calnan welcomed the guest with a few well chosen words. Greetings were expressed from the Institutes present and the District President Mrs Clifford Barber expressed greetings from the District. Our entertainment for the afternoon consisted of singing of the Institute Ode, readings and music from the visiting branches. This brought our programme to a close by singing The guests "The Queen". were s erved tea, assorted sandwiches, relishes and fancy cookies. Then our Past Secretary Mrs Clayton Morden and our present Secretary Mrs Walter Snider were called to the front to blow out the candles and cut the birthâ€"
