Hand- Made Quilt Is Tribute To Founders By Mrs. L. E. Brooks ' One of the outstanding displays .featured at this year’s Prince Ed- ward County Fair at Picton will be that sponsored hy the Prince Edward District Women's Insti~ 1 lute. . In 1967 the women began a pro ‘j'eot as a tribute to the founding men and women of the county. . Media for this message is a beautiful handâ€"made quilt. Like so many activities and products of those activities of our forefathers, ‘ quilting bees provided the women not only with an opportunity for get togethers in order to exchange the latest recipes and gossip, but also an opportunity to create an individual dualized object of artis- tic as well as utilitarian beauty. This is in great contrast :to our, modern age which manufactures: thousands of identical objects which are designed to give one rather than one hundred years of service. The quilt itself was selected to illustrate this Way of life before the machine age. The modern hip- pie movement claims to have in- vented the idea of the creative en- ergy force of doing your own thing. They did not invent Iit. They just reminded the world of its exist- once.
