.v’ \ a 29> Sophiasburgh TWP. PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY 0 Code # S 5 BETHEL-DOXSEE CEMETERY Located on an old road allowance south of Bethel St., this cemetery once served the communities of both Bethel and Doxsee (lot #5, concession 3, WGP). The laque bearing the name of this cemetery is dated lBhl to 19 7. Sylvanus Doxsee, son of the original Doxsee pioneer, Archelaus, is buried on these grounds. Elizabeth Shortt, sylvanus' wife, is also buried here. The Old Methodist Church on the corner of Bethel Street and County Road 4 was named Doxsee's after this prominent family. Many members of the Black, Dorland, Parks, Thompson, and Way families are buried in this cemetery. The earliest burial appears to be that of Jonathan Greely who died in lBhO and the latest burial is that of Minnie McGillivray Parks, who lived from 1865-19h7. The township of Sophiasburgh keeps this cemetery in good condition. -With assistance from: Elonger Li§g_on the Bay_gf Quintg, (1904)
