To N I: :5 '35 as HILLIER WOMEN‘S INSTITUTE HONORED Honors have come to Hillier Women’s Institute, the secretary, Mrs. Stewart Wood, having receiv- ed' a cheque for $25. from the Farmer’s Magazine for a .plan of a rural home submitted among thirty competitiors. The honor, of course, is particularly due iMrs. Norman Foster of Cold Creek. who conceived and drew and sub- mitted the plan, and who is receivâ€" ing the congratulations of many friends. In the February number of the Farmer’s Magazine, it was an- nounced that the sum of $25. would be given to three or four of the ‘best plans submitted for a rural home. Twelve were chosen by the com- mittee as excellent, the Hillier plan being among the number it affords us much pleasure to con- gratulate Hillier Women’s Institute and particularly, Mrs, Norman Foster, on the honor recently re- ceived. The meeting opermd with the sing- ing of the “Ode,” followed by prayers, after which the president read apoem ‘ for Homemakers. l A letter was read asking the mem- l. hers to bring their own sugar when Ithey attend the District annual in Picton on May let. l Mrs. Sherman Foster gave a report on the meeting of the District Direc- tors and Mrs. Bedell gave the treasâ€" urer's report. Marion Wannamaker reported on Girls’ Clubs. Mrs. Jones presented Mrs. W, A. Foster, the retiring president. with a pin and life membership certificate. Mrs, Foster has {or many years been a very active member of the Women’s | Institute. The roll-call was answered by an Easter thought and the payment of l fees. Mrs. Sherwin presented Mrs. Wm. Bedell with a pin and life membership Certificate Mrs Bedell has for 25 years been an active member of the W.I.. and for the past ten years been a most capable secretaryâ€"treasurer for Hillier W.I. The Christmas meeting of Hillier W.I. was held in Hillier hall Tuesr day evening, December 17th, fea- turing a potluck supper. The tables were spread typical in coloring and ideCOI‘ations of Christmas in green Iand red. The members and their many guests partook of a symp- tuous supper. Mrs. W. Jordan gave a cordial ‘welcomc in all and called on Mrs. A. Wannamaker to present the pro» gram, who first Ulanked all those who had made a Special effort to be present. Program opened with carol singing. The girls leading with Mrs. D. Alyea at the piano. Misses Susan and Louise Good- murphy sang a duet accompaniEd by Susan Alyea at the piano Miss Marlene Courneyea favored with two accordeon instrumentals. Mjss Arlene and Monica Alyca sang a duet with Mrs. 13- Alyea accom- panying. Mrs. Jordan gave a humorous reading followed by carol singing of Silent Night_ The girls singing the first verse then all sang in unison. Mrs. Jordan closed Lhc meeting with The Queen. The children wt‘re given treats ”kw , i i l of Christmas candy and fruit. A silver collection was given. Mrs. Monahan was remembered and given a tasty arrangement of food. Mrs. Monahan now unable to at tend, was a former W.I. members. Everyone enjoyed this Christmas venture and spent the remainder of time in social hour of visiting l
