Thurlow Boys Tadpole SoFtball League This league was set up under the Recreation Committee in order that boys 7 to 9 years 0F age could play ball. SoFtball was selected as it was Felt that most small boys perhaps had never played balI beFore and they were not likely to get hurt. In I972 the league operated with Four teams which were: Bob’s Sports (Point Anne No-Stars) Coaches: Tom Walsh and Floyd Peters Reid’s Plumbing 8 Heating Coaches: Jack Garvin and Glen Reid Radio Shack Coach: Jerry Hill Fitzgibbon Construction Coaches: Mike Graham 8 Walter Foley The league pennant winer and league champion was the Point Anne No-Stars. This team lost only one game all season and swept to the championship by deFeating Reid’s Plumbing in the Finals. The Murray Edmund Hurd Memorial Cup was donated by Mr. 8 Mrs. Jim Hurd in memory oF their son who died in the spring oF I972 and this cup is presented annually to the team that wins the championship. In I972 Point Anne No-Stars were the winners. In I973 the league operated with Four teams which were: Bob’s Sports Coaches: Floyd Peters 8 Pete Douglas H.J. McFarland Construction Coach: Jack Garvin CanniFton Garage Coach: Jerry Hill Fitzgibbon Construction Coaches: Bob Hunt and Ron Denyes The HHL McFarland Construction team Finished the season in First place and they won the Terry Lynn Fisher Memorial Cup. This cup was donated by Mr. 8 Mrs. Lynn Fisher in memory oF their son who was a member 0F the McFarland team and lost his liFe as a result oF a drowning in the Moira River at Foxboro in the spring 0F I973. The FitZgibbon Construction team were the league champions in I973 by deFeating the CanniFton Garage team in a close Final. The Fitzgibbon team were winners 0F the Murray Edmund Hurd Memorial Cup. The Terry Lynn Fisher Memorial Cup and the Murray Edmund Hurd Memorial Cup are For annual competition. It is the intention oF the doners 0F these cups that they go to the homes oF the team members For a period and then to theschools oF the team members. These cups will be on display at the Township OFFice during the playing season. The Thurlow Tadpole League is solely For the enjoyment oF the children that participate and the coaches have mutually agreed that the main objective is Fun For the boys with winning secondary. In I972, I973 and I974 Jim Hurd has been league convener.
