ZION HILL METHODIST CHURCH (WESLEYAN) LOT 10 CON. 8 Land was donated by Nathan Denyes and his wife the former Sarah Ann Ketcheson. Zion H121 church was built in the year 1862. The contractor was the late late Gilbert Faulkner. The first trustees of this church were Samuel Youker, Simon Denyes, William Chapman, James Phillips, Wilson Denyes, Charles Hamilton, William Youker, and Nathan Denyes. IS7O On June 16,1986 Mrs, Levi Massey, then District Organizer for the Women's Missionary Society organized a society on the Plainfield Circuit and it was to be known as the Central Branch of the Women's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church. It was a Circuit Society composed of the three churches â€" Plainfield, Bethel, and Zion Hill. The officers of the first Society were as follows: Presidentâ€" Mrs. John V. Ketcheson - She held this office for a period of 15 years. 1st. Vice Presidentâ€" Mrs. (Rev.) Meyers 2nd. Vice President - Mrs. George Martin Corresponding Secretary â€" Miss M.H. Davis Recording Secretary - Miss Kate Shorey Treasurer - Mrs. William Sills Th ere were 25 members. The first y ear the meetings were not too well attended. They were held at the differâ€" ent churches - one month at Blainfield, one at Zion, and one at Bethel. The women travelled to the meetings with horse and democrat. The members did not grasp the needs of the society and givings were small â€" an average from 25¢ â€" 27¢ and that first year they only contributed the sum of $10.00 to the cause of Missions. But as they learned, their givings steadily grew. The congregation of this church became very few in mumber, and as will be recorded later, joined with the Bethel congregation which was also small In 1953 the old Zion Hill church was sold to MR. Thoman Thorns of Belleville for the sum of $100. 00. Some of the church furnishings were taken to Bethel, the remainder sold to a new congregation in the northern part of the County.
