Ridge Road /' ," scene?" by BILL MORISON "Save energy - God gave us only so much of it" was the motto and theme of the , January meeting of the Vmemount Women's In- stitute meeting that was held at the home of Mrs. W. Morison with Mrs. F. Weylie in charge. Mrs. R. Deuxberry acted as the recording secretary for the afternoon meeting. During the Roll Call each membernamed five ways to save energy around the home. Mrs. A. Paolasini gave a short report on education and cultural ac- tivities and Mrs. J. Deux? berry, the convener for this meeting based her report on the nutritional values of the fruits grown in the Niagara Peninsula. During this report she also had pamphlets and gave suggestions for recipes and interesting ways of varying our menus to make use of home--grown fruits. Greetings are to be sent to some of the members who have been ill during the past few weeks. The ladies were rather lucky to be able to attend this Wednesday meeting in January since violent snow storms are the order of the day, so it seems to the Ridge Road residents. Mrs. M. In the absence of the president Mrs. H. Hadden, Mrs. Weylie took the chair and conducted the meeting which was opened by the Ode and minutes of the last meeting. Roll call was an- swered with a favorable recipe. Mrs. J. Deuxberry and Mrs. A. Paolasini gave five minute committee reports. The business portion of the meeting was discussed and all members were reminded of the quilting to be held at the home of Mrs. C. Vickers, Jan. 26. A penny sale was held and enjoyed by all. Meeting closed and a social half hour was! spent when Mrs. Paolasini and Mrs. M. Fortman served lunch. Vinemount by Evangeline Philip The regular monthly meeting of the Vinemount Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. W. Scott, Wednesday, March 9. In the absence of the president Mrs. H. Hadden, Mrs. F. Weylie conducted the meeting in the usual _way opening with the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Twelve members were present and answered the roll call which was: as to where our children are influenced the most, home, church or school . Minutes and the financial report were given. Morrison who gave an account of her years of teaching school and some of the problems and rewards. Final plans for 'the March I7 tea were discussed. The members were reminded of the pictures to be shown in the Rock Chapel E.R. by Mr. Percy Shuker on March 30 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Weylie closed the meeting and a social half hour was enjoyed when lunch was served by Mrs. W." Scott and Mrs. Paolasini. _ VIHBHHHHI Mrs. Ralph Deuxberry entertained the members of Vinemount Women's Institute at her home for the annual meeting on Wednesday, April 2. Mrs. Deuxberry presided and opened with the opening ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Nine members were present and the roll call was answered by "Sing, Say or Pay". The minutes and financial reports were given and approved. Mrs. Paolasini gave the card and flower report and Mrs. F. Weylie reported on the board meeting. . Mrs. Deuxberry closed the meeting "I know something good about you". A bus trip is lanned for June 11 to Oshawa to visit Mr. Macauchis Home' (Parkwood) and a tour of the grounds. Carter, Wednesday, , Oct. 27 for the first meeting of the season. Ten members and three guests were present. The president Mrs. H. Hadden opened the meeting with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes of the last meeting, financial report and flower report were given. Correspondance was discussed and it was agreed to send $10 to help defray expenses of the delegates at the district level to the area convention. Also $15 is being sent to sugar and creams for 4H Girl Achievement. This concluded the business. It was moved ' by Mrs. F. Weylie, seconded by Mrs. A Paolasini that the meeting be closed. A social half hour was spent and a lovely lunch served by Mrs. W. Oldfield and Mrs. R. Deuxberry. Women's Institute We Members of Vinemount W.l. visited the Lewis home in Winona and had a very en- [oyable afternoon after which a short planning meeting was held at the home of Mrs. F. Weylie. Our annual bus trip was taken on June 10 when members and friends visited Veldhuis Cactus Greenhouses at Dundas and then on to Linden Mail for a shopping spree and dinner before going on to visit the Adelaide Hoodless Home at St. George, a good time was had by all. The Vinemount W.l. catered to a luncheon at the Lee Homestead, June 12 for the W.l. of Alberta who are travelling to Charlottetown, P.E.I. for the National In stitute Convention. We found them to be a very friendly group. Mrs. Balhorn thanked us kindly and presented to our W_.I. a lovely cup and saucer With the Alberta Crest on it. The group left for Niagara Falls' with full tummies and smiles on their faces and seemed very pleased they had marked the Lee Homestead as one of their many stops on their eastern tour. MemDErs then enioyed the fruits of their labor at which time Mrs. R. Deuxberry our .retiring president was presented with our Institute Cup and Saucer, as a token of her hard and faithful work. Mrs. Alice Hadden made the presentation and Mrs. Deuxberry gracefully replied. Mr. and Mrs. Weylie and Mrs. Deuxberry are flying to Charlottetown where the ladies will represent our In- _ stitute at the convention, those of us not able to attend will be anxious to hear all about it. Hope'to see all our members in the fall, with their finished quilt block. Have a good summer, ladies. "
