"he year 1957 has been for the Women's Institute organization, a year of memorable and happy events, and to three of these. I shall refer briefly. Early last month (October), in St. George, Ontario, the birth place of our founder Mrs. Hoodless, a beautiful cairn erected to her memory by the Institute members of Brant County, was unreiled by Her Excellency, the Lady Tweedsmuir. Last July the Institutes in England celebrated the twenty--first f-their National Federation. the Institute birthday :3 As you know, ,1" movement was introduced into England by Mrs. Watt, a former Canadian, now president of our great international organization, the Associated Country Women of the World. \v ,, ",. ~ #4 is. \ .J One feature of this celebration was in the form of a national 5 broadcast over the C.B.C. network, when the National President, Lady Denman. in roduoed'by Her Excellency the lady Tweedsmuir. addressed her radio audience for fifteen minutes, on the achiovementg of the English Institutes, not forgetting to express her gratitude to Canada for this much appreciated organization. In recognition of their gratitude to Canada and by virtue of my offioe as National President. I was asked to speak for seven minutes over the radio, immediately following Lady Denman. - to give the story of the origin, aims and ideals of our organization.
