HOUSLAN DER The teacherrconductor has had an outstanding musical career in the professional field and as a musical educator. During World War [I he was first trombonist with the R.C.A.F. Central Band at Ottawa. From 1945 to 1948 he furthered his studies at the Toronto Conservatory, Ontario, and the College of Education in Instrumental and Vocal Music. During this period he gained valu- able experience playing with the Toronto Sym-- phony Orchestra, on C.B.C. radio, and the pit orchestra at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. He #- returned to Hamilton in 1948 to open up the first Instrumental Music Programme in Hamilton Secondary Schools. In 1949 he formed the R.C.A.F. No. 16 Wing Band (reserve) and established it as a top Canadian band winning the Canadian National Exhibition open Class "A" award on two occasions. He has been honoured on several occasions as guest conductor at several University music clinics in the United States of America. In the field of Broadway Productions, he has conducted "South u u cific , Brigadoon" and "Carousel" for the Hamilton Theatre Inc. Mr. Houslander has been Director Of Music for the past four years at Saltfleet District High School.
