RUSSELL PUBLIC AND CONTINUATION SCHOOL RE--UNION 28--29 June, 1969. A re-union of the former teachers, School Board members, and pupils was held in the Russell Public and Continuation School - 8.8. No. 2 - slated to be demolished to make way for a new and up- to-date Public School, the weekend of 28-29 June, 1969. Programmes were drawn up for the two-day celebration starting with registration at the school of former pupils and teachers. Invitations were sent out to everyone who had attended the school and the response was terrific - 1200 to 1500 came. On Saturday, after registration and a look at old pictures, etc. a barbecue was held and in the evening a most successful dance brought the day to a close. Everyone enjoyed meeting with and going over old friends. Sunday morning, an ecumenical service was held in the United Church with former members of the school taking part; namely, Rev. R.J. McNaught, Rev. Eldon Hay, and Rev. Ken Robinson. The church and church hell were filled to capacity and it was truly a memorable service. A box lunch was served at the Curling Rink after the service and a programme of speecms followed in the ball park by former teachers, school Board Members and pupils. A booklet was compiled prior to the celebration for sale to anyone interested entitled "Yesterday". Briefly, the project was a tremendous success and one not easily forgotten. By Mrs. Lloyd G. Hay 25 November, 1969.
