125 1947 'Tis well to take an annual historical inventory and so follow the trend of the times in which we live. In advocating the Tweedsmuir History, Lady Tweedsmuir recommended that each year a page be added, recording out-- standing local happenings. Following is Russell's first page:-- The Allison property at the East end has been purchased by the Roman Catholic Church to be used as a Mission and Day School. Father Cadieux of Metcalfe conducts weekly services and a teacher has been engaged for the fall term. The Russell Printing Office operated by Car Hall, has taken a new lease of life. As yet, only job printing is done, but we are hopeful of again having a county newspaper. A local branch of the Lions Club was organized by Frank Casselman and held its Charter Night June 11 at the United Church Hall. President Glenn Rankin, Vice Presidents, Dr. F. Kinnaird, and R. M. Hay, Secretary, E. Rawson, Treasurer, J. E. Kyle. There are 27 charter members and bimonthly dinner meetings are held with guest speakers on current topics. The club is now sponsoring The Russell Students' Band, under the chairmanship of Gar Hall. Early in the year, we had no meat shop. Now we have four. A feast or a famine?
