THE FARM HISTORI OF Tdh HILLIARD RAY FARM. \ Given by 1-'.rs.Hilliard Ray in 1961. Our farm consists of 525 acres and was two farms at first.Lot l6,Con.1 the stone house where we live, was built in 1855,3nd was then owned by Mr. Sidney Payne, and according to Mr.George Leslie, whose mother was Mr.Fayne's daughter, there was a log house across the lane from the present house, before this one was built. There is a building here that looks as though it has been a housegit has a stair, and one room plastered, and is made of wide boards, but so far I haven't found anyone that knows why it is there,or when it was lived in. The second owner was Mr.Samuel Edwards, then about 1890 Mr.Robert Bullock bought it along with the adjoining farm of 200 acres of Lot l7,Con.l. Lot l7,Con.l is the old Bullock farm, and was taken as crown land by Mr. William Bullock, wkose grave is in the pioneer cemetery, who died in 1855. His son James dieo quite young leaving a wife and family of five. The oldest being a girl Mary Jane, who married a Doleman and went to Vancouver.William who was my Grandfather, who farmed on Con.5 Douro near Lakefield, then went to Otonabee, then (rono.Robert Bullock who stayed on the farm, was born in 1858 and died l927;and George and Thomas who moved to Essex County. Robert Bullook married twice.By his first wife he had 6 children.J.Wesley Bullock, born in 1&86 died in 1954,who had two children,Stanley and Nellie. W.George, died in 1919,who had one daughter Eleanor.Ella who married Joseph Tedford.Alberta who married Thomas Cooper.Mrs.Allen Jackson and Florence, who went to Detroit, hichigan. By his second wife,Cynthia Owens,he had Blanche, who married Clifford hing and Edith mliza, who married Robert Brotherstone. In lyl9 hr.Burritt Ray bought the farm for 9,000 dollars from Mr,Robert Bullock. In 1945 Hilliard Ray bought the farm from his father, and still owns it.In 1940 Harold and Grace Ray lived on the farm on Lot l7,Con.l,where hrs. Gordon Sharpe now lives. Lot 17 is two long hundreds that run from the Township boundary to the first concession. The first house was of log and was built a little more than halfway back. There is a stone well there yet.Later a small frame house was built close to the first concession near the cemetery and a little north-west of it.The house was later burned, and the barn taken down. The barn on Lot 16,which now stands was,I presume, the original one. There was a log horse stable which was taken down, which perchance was the first barn. The south erd barn was built in 189l,and Mr.Fred Norish helped build it. me was my mother's father. The north barn which runs east and west was bndlt in 1575.3here is no foundation under the barn. ‘Electrioity was installed on the farm in January,l958-There is 00 bathroom yet.hixed farming is carried on.hain crops are hat, oats, wheat and corn silage. There was an apple orchard, but only one tree left. The farm is on the East% of Lot 16 and Lot 17.Con.l,Dummer.
