Sunshine Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History Book 5 searchable pdfa South Plantagenet Municipal Hall The South Plantagenet Municipal Hall was built in 1967 with a Canadian Centennial Year grant. This was done during Alfred Sloan’s years as Reeve. in 1988 under the Reeve ship ofClaude Gravel and a provincial grant, the hall was remodeled. An extension was built which included a new kitchen, bathrooms, cloakrooms and storage space A tile floor replaced the painted cement floor. Windows were closed and aluminum siding in gold and brown covered the cement block walls. A central heating and air conditioning system was installed. in 1990 the name ofthe building done in brown lettering was added to the outside ofthe building facing the road. Sunshine Women‘s institute added a Panasonic Microwave to the kitchen in 1986. Two new electric stoves are now in the kitchen, one replaced by the Municipal Council in 1990 and the second one by the Senior Citizen Club in 1991. Through a government New Horizon Grant to the Senior Citizen Club in 1989, the hall has been equipped with a full line of kitchen, serving and eating utensils besides stacking chair carriers, card tables and their storage carriers. This equipment is intended for the use of the community. I The hall is now used extensively for meeting under O.M.A.F., the 4-H groups and Sunshine W1 A Play School for pre-school children begun in 197 still operates once a week. The Cercles Fer/mares and the Senior Citizen Outreach program both use the hall as their home base. A11 churches in the township are now having fund raising activities as well as the Riceville Agricultural Society and the Foumier recreation. Now in 1992 the South Plantagenet Municipal Council has seen necessary to apply for another grant to be used for added storage space. 10
