Stewartville Women‘s Institute Tweedsmuir History Book Three searchable pdfa u tusouth‘fienfrew District As district curator for South Renfrew I wish to submit my report fa 1983. From 18 branches 18 reported. The progress in Tweedsmuir History recording is getting slower every year. Some have 3 and A volumes and still find new material to add. Some branches do not seem able to find much more to add about the past, but what about the present. What is happening now will be history in the future. Some branches are at a stand still for the lack of finding a Curator interested and with time on hand to search the necessary facts needed pertaining to some of the local history. Our older citizen are getting fewer every.year, especially those .who can recall old historical land marks./ Don't forget there is the Archives and local library to provide such information. Please don't leave the important part of being a curator to the same faithful few who have contributed so much from the start, they have done their share, especially if they have held this post for six years or more. It would be a nece gesture to include in the book a special page giving praise and thanks to the outgoing curator for the wor done. Some branches reported having a meeting where they discussed industries once existing in their community and the curator brought the Tweedsmuir History Book to the meeting so all could view the work done. This is a good way in keeping interest going especially to new younger members who may have never heard of the TWeedsmuir History. There is a strong interest in some brances to get placques erected _, preserve some special corner of their community. With so much change in our Highways and ByWays we are loosing a‘lot of identity. Others are pressing their local townships to erect signs naming the settlement. This year being the Ontario Bicentennial many activities are being planned by different branches. Some are marking the ' 70th anniversary of their branch with a special tea. I would like to urge those who have not yet made plans to at least join other grou s or branches. There is a tea bang planned by the district which hope everyong will try to attend. Get involved and you will get interested and then enthusiasm, like fire, spreads very quickly. MOT? : Name an important Canadian and tell why they are important. Name an industry in your township. In closing lets aim for better reporting. I would like to use this poem from the Pine.6rove report. Our forebears had a way with stone And left a glorious legacy Their very ruins seem to speak , 0f order, prayer, and piety. Respectfully submitted .15 mc/u- Florida Young Mrs. J. A. Young) R. R. 2 Arnprior, Ontario K75 368 Phone 623-337L l9
