Although the area was first inspected in 1972 by members of the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority. it wasn't until a year later that the establishment of the Saugaen Bluffs Conservation Area was approved. 160 adjacent acres wereadded in 1975, bringing the present size of the area to 507 acres. 'The Bluffs” are capable of containing 112 tents or small trailers, with 28 hydro serviced sites having been installed earlier this year. It is an ideal slop-0H point for canoeists padd- ling along the Saugeen River. as well as an ideal [oration for seasonal nature studies The Saugeen Bluffs supports ‘many more activities, including the Maple Syrup Demonstration and several Winter sports. The official opening of this area is therefore of great significance, not only as a realization of a plan and later financed faithfully by the late Robert Sutherland Sr., but as a valuable asset to Paisley and environs. The proposal for the development of the Saugeen Bluffs came i tially from within the SVCA: once it was accepted, Mr. Sutherland repeatedly donated funds to the Charitable Foundation, who turned them over to the SVCA It was desired by Mr Sutherland that the area would not at any time be over developed into a bumper-tobumper trailor parkt Strong support throughout development was also received from the Province of Ontario and the SVCA'S 41 member municipalities.
