Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Kelly William Standish took this land out from the Crown on January 2. 1877. In 1835 he sold to Robert Hutchinson for $2,165.00. Andrew Hutchinson acquired this property through an estate. and in 1890 sold to Margâ€" aret Kettles. In 1903 Charlie Nelson bought the land from Margaret Kettles. Charlie Nelson and his wife. Mary Cassidy raised their family here. They were â€" Teressa, Mrs. Heather Robertson; Marie. Mrs. Frank Anthes; Hilda. Mrs. Harold Sutherâ€" land; Gladys. Mrs. Albert Laycock; Howard. and Stewart, who died while quite young. The cement bridge on the 2nd was built in 1905. the year Howard Nelson was born. In the Good Friday storm in 191}. the roof blew off the barn. one half landing on each side of the house. In 1923 Charlie Nelson built the driving shed that still stands (1969). In 1935 the house was remodelled, and in 1936 Howard Nelson. Charlie's son. married Florence Teasdale. He bought the farm from his father. and Mr. Nelson moved to Lot 20. Gone. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nelson had a family of two daughters and one son. Lucille. Mrs. Robt. Laurie. was a scnool teacher; Sharon. Mrs. Allan MacDonald trained as a nurse; Orland taught school for some time. and at present is working for the Government in Saskatoon. His wife is the former Marlene Fitzsimmons. In 1958 Howard Nelson built the cement silo. and put twe water from the creek into the stable in the early ‘40'5. In 1946. noward sold to David Jeffrey. who planned to use the farm as grass land. and he and his family moved to the sixth concession of Bruce Township. Lot 21. Concession 2. Saugeen. «2â€" 54» In 1966 Charles W. and Florence Kelly purâ€" chased this 100 acres and 50 acres of Lot 22 from David Jeffrey for the sum of 315.000.00 An asphalt roof was put on the barn by Kellys in 1966. and in 1969 the barn was used for wintering cattle, for the first time since 1946.
