Mr. and Mrs. H. Schildroth The farm. Lot 9, Concession 2, Saugeen Township, presently owned by Harry A. F. Schildroth, was taken from the Crown on October 30th, 1862 by Samuel N. Moyer. Originally the farm consisted of 100 acres, but on October 23rd, 1865 eighteen acres on the east side of the Lot was sold to John Stafford. These 18 acres changed hands oftener than the remaining 82 acres. Charles Maas received ownership of the 82 acres from Samuel N. Mayer on March the 12th, 1881. 1n the year l895. on March 13. Robert McVinnie became the owner until March 20th, 1905, when Charles W. Mitchell Jr., purâ€" chased the land. From the 25th day of March 1909 until December 15th, 1913. Finlay McPherson had possession of the 82 acres. In 1916, January Elst, Joseph Vennard bought the property from the Executors of the estate of Finlay McPherson and on Dec- ember l8th. of the same year sold the land to Charles Kelso. James W. Cluley bought the farm on the ch of April, 1999. From James Cluley it went to Austin and Marguerite Cluley on Octâ€" ober 6th. 19H8. On March 22, 195%, the present owner Harry Schildroth became the tenth owner in less than one hundred years since coming from the Crown. At least 2 acres of this land was exâ€" propriated by the Department of highways in the year 1955, April and October 1955 and 1958. The main part of the present house which is 16 feet by 24 feet is believad to be the original one. An addition was placed on the east side, l6 feet by 24 feet. The house was built of stud frame and covered with lumber, asphalt siding, and over this wire lathe and stucco. It is a one and a half storey with large dormer windows being added in 19k9, facing on the south. and 1963 on the north. These windâ€" ows add much light, Space and ventilation in the master bedroom. About 1950 excavations were made under the addition on the east side and a cement block wall was put up to make a full cellar. At this time a four piece bath room was installed. This necessitated the water being put under pressure. Kitchen cupboards were built in. Other improvements were made - in 1956 the present coat of stucco was applied. A forced air, oil furnace was installed in 1958. In 1963 a bedroom was finished over the bathroom. The main cellar was panelled for a recreation room in 1969. In 1966 the kitchen cupboards were replaced and a new floor laid. Mixed farming was carried on with cattle and hogs being kept and feed for these being grown. In recent years grain crops have been grown chiefly. The north end of the farm is Sandy loam, well drained and the southern end is low with no good outlet for drainage - making it cold and late in Spring. The first barn was built of timber frame
