Salem-Nilestown W.I. On February 19, 1997, our W.I.joined with all other W.I.‘s in Ontario in a prepared program to celebrate the [00th anniversary of the founding of Women's Institutes. Several guests and some members of St. Andrew's W.I. (disbanded) enjoyed the afternoon with us. In June 1997. the 100th anniversary of the W.I. was held in Hamilton with Betty Lawson and Georgina Carroll attending. Also in June, our W.I. and friends met at the Clog & Thistle Restaurant in lngersoll for a neon luncheon. Follwing this we toured the lngersoll Cheese Museum. The 1997 Christmas Party was held at Betty Lawson's home with a delightful Pot Luck meal followed by a display of dolls by Mrs. Roberta Drury of Dorchester. She explained how much work is involved in reproducing the Period dolls, especially the dolls' costumes. A sizable collection was taken to be passed on to the Women's Auxilary of the Children's Hospital, London. At the Fehmary 1998 meeting we had our revised Tweedsmuir History on display for the members to see. For the program, each curator member gave a summary of persons or properties from our past history, e.g. The McClary Family, The Gilmour Family, The McKerlie Tragedy, and The Willow Dell Mills. A photographer from the Signpost took a picture of the History Curators. In April I998 Mrs. Marilyn Cross attended our Annual meeting and installed the new officers including our new president Mrs. Betty Lawson. Also in April, the Salem Nilestown W.I. entertained East Middlesex District for their Spring Luncheon. We seated 81 persons at $8.50 per person. The Mossley W.l. supplied the program. Mrs. Marilyn Cross chaired the occasion. Also present was Mrs. Phyllis Laughton, Provincial Board Member and Mrs. Gladys Egclton, London Area President. The June 1998 meeting took the form of a boat tour of the Thames River starting from Springbank Park. Later at a short meeting, Mrs. Georgina Carroll was presented with a Life Membership certificate and pin in appreciation of her ten years as President of our W.I. - SalemiNilertawn Women '5 Institute Secretary BUD/(X
