Salemâ€"Nilestown W.I. In June I986 our W.I. celebrated its 70th anniversary at the Nordon Restaurant. Special guests were Mrs. Robert Wilson, Provincial Board Member, Mrs. Lewis London, Area President, and Mrs. Foster, District President. We were entertained by the Sweet Adelines. Special speaker was Mrs. J. Murray of Westminster Township. In July [987 two of our members, Mrs. Betty Lawson and Mrs. Donalda Oosterhuis attended the 90th Anniversary of the W.I. held in North Bay. In April 1988 our W.I. entertained the Spring Luncheon at the Nilestown Masonic Hall. Our W. I. contributes annually to Pennies for Friendship (A.C.W.W.). Also a yearly donation is made to the Kinsmen Camp (Dorchester). In 1987 we contributed $100 to go towards an electric lift for an M.S. victim in Dorchester. In 1988 we gave $100 to the Nilestown Masonic Memorial Park Charitable Foundation. In 1991 we sent $100 to A.C.W.W. â€" "Women Feed the World." Also $100 in 1991 was given to the Nilestown Masonic Memorial Park towards a tree to be planted. During the 1990's our W.I. has entered contests at Dorchester Fair and Western Fair. At the latter we obtained two 4ths and one second prize. In 1995, we presented a skit "The Little Red Hen " at the District Annual at Harrietsville, and repeated it at the London Area Convention by request. Under the Knitting Squares for Zambia, 1996797, 120 large squares were made ready to mail. Just under 400 small ones have already been mailed. During the 1990’s our members, when requested have helped out at Dairy Days in February and the W.I. Booth at Western Fair. Memorial Donations have been forwarded to Erland Lee Home and Adelaide Hoodless home in memory of deceased members. Each May or June our W.I., along with friends, have dined out followed by a tour chosen by a committee. Some of the places visited were: Robarts School of Hearing Impaired, Strathroy Museum, London Art Gallery, Pinecroft, Sparta. Old Court House, Ann McColl's Kitchen, Walking Tour of Lambeth, Pillsbury Plant, Agricultural Research Centre, St. Paul‘s Cathedral, St. Peter’s Basilica, Swain's Green Houses, Banting House. In June 1996 the Salem Nilestown W.I. celebrated its 80th anniversary in the Masonic Hall with many guests and District W.I.‘s present. Honorary Guests were Mrs. Margaret Harris, Provincial President and Mrs. Donna Pilkington, Provincial Board Member for London Area, subdivision 22 and 23. A shortened history of our W.I. was given by Mrs. Myrtle Wright. This included many of the highlights of the years past. A special visitor was a former member of our group, Mrs. Jean Judge. She expressed her warm wishes when called upon to speak. For entertainment we had the Royal Scottish Country Dancers from London. This group included one of our members, Mrs. Nancy Duncan. Our president, Mrs. Georgina Carroll, presided over the pleasant afternoon meeting.
