Salem-Nilestown W.I. 411 Advanced Honors. Jane Thompson was presented with a painting for having completed 24 41â€"1 clubs. In May 1971 we entertained the Middlesex District Annual in Nilestown Masonic Hall. In February 1972 our W.I. entertained in honour of the 75th anniversary of F.W.I.O at the Masonic Hall. Mrs. Pilkington, our Provincial Board member. Mrs. K. Hogg, District President, and guests from other W.I.'s were present. A skit written by Mrs. William Wilson was presented by our W.I. Other musical numbers were enjoyed. In March 1973 our W.1. was invited by the London Historical Society to give the history of Nilestown in the Public Library. Queen's Ave. Those taking part were Mrs. H. Judge as William Niles. Others commenting on various parts of the village history were Mrs. A. Lawson, Miss Jean Wright, Mrs. H. W. Boles, Mrs. Robinson Thompson, Mrs. F. Morgan, Mrs. H. Noyes, and Mrs. G. Wright. In June 1976, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of our W.I. at the Nordon Restaurant. Special visitors were Mrs. E. Stanley, Provincial Board member, Mrs. W. Laidlaw, London Area President, Mrs. E. Wills, District President, and Mrs. Davies of Kingsmill Mapleton W.I. as special speaker. Mrs. Gladys McColl came as charter member of our W.I. and Mrs. Dodds as first year member. In April 1977, we entertained the Spring Luncheon for our District at the Masonic Hall. Officers' Conferences for F.W.I.O W.I.'s were held each May in the 1970's and early 1980's at Guelph UniVersity and later at Waterloo University. Each of our officers took advantage of these 3â€"day sessions. Short Courses sponsored by the Department of Agriculture & Food were set up in the area. Each Branch sent two ladies to learn the information. They, in turn, went back to their own W.1. to teach those interested in their group. These were held in the 1970’s and 1980's. These courses given were either Food Forums or courses in sewing with knits, needlepoint, rug making, crewel embroidery, or quilting. Our W.I. entered a number of these. In June 1981, our W.I. was invited to tour the former Nilestown United Church which had been converted into a lovely home. In May 1982 our W.I. entertained the Middlesex East District Annual at the Masonic Hall in Nilestown. In October 1982, the International Ploughing Match was held near Lucan. The Middlesex W.I. decided to man a booth there. Our W.I. was asked to supply 20 baked pies and buckets of peeled potatoes. A bee was held at the Masonic Hall where these were prepared ahead of time and taken by bus to Lucan.
