Salem-Nileslown W. |. In May 1947 We began our correspondence with the Awlis Combe W.I. in Devon, England. Food boxes were sent until the late 1950's. A subscription to Mclean's Magazine was then sent yearly and later a subscription to our Home & Country for a few years. In 1962 Mrs. Seabrook. one of our members was given a W.I. cup and saucer to present to our sister W.I. when she visited them on her trip to England. Mrs. Jack Yeoman Visited this W.I. when in England in 1971, and enjoyed a twoiday visit. We still exchange small gifts at Christmas. In May 1948 we entertained the District Annual in the . Masonic Hall with 72 ladies present, and a charging $0.65 a plate. In 1948 the Middlesex Coâ€"operative Medical Services came into being. At least ten members of a group had to apply before services could be obtained. These services helped cover hospital expenses for any family member at a year rate. Quite a few ladies in the community joined our W.I. at that time and thus were able to make use of the Coâ€"op services. In June 1952, the ear races started at the Nilestown Race Track. Our W.I. had a booth there and realized just under $400 in the one night. A portable moved in after that year. In 1954 the new school at Nilestown was officially opened with John Knott, Norman Knott Sr., and Norman Knott Jr. cutting the ribbon. The W.I. served lunch for this occasion. Our W.I. was asked to cater to dinners in the New Masonic Hall in November and December, 1957 and also in May 1958. We did well financially doing this. In May 1958, at a regular Institute meeting, Mrs. Piggott suggested that a letter be sent to the North Dorchester Council regarding the unsightly weeds in the Baptist Cemetery. By 1967, both the Baptist and Bostwick cemeteries had been greatly improved, including a new fence at Bostwick. Our W.I. donated a flowering crab tree to be planted in each of these cemeteries in 1967. In May, 1960, our W.I. entertained the Middlesex East District Annual. In 1965,); Mrs. H. Judge was elected President of Middlesex East District. In April 1966, our W.I. held the Middlesex East Spring Luncheon in the Masonic Hall. In June. 1966. our W.I. celebrated their 50th anniversary in the Masonic Hall. A skit was performed by Mrs. Dodds and Mrs. Judge and a monologue by Mrs. R. Thompson. Mrs. Harvey Wales was the special speaker. From 196th 1967. Mrs. Homer Judge of our Institute was Provincial Board Member for subdivisions 21, 22, and 23. During the late 1960's through to the 1980‘s we had 4H girls groups under our W.I. sponsorship. The leaders were Mrs. H. Noyes, Mrs. A. Lawson. Mrs. G. Vanhie, Mrs. H. W. Boles. and Mrs. R. Zavitz. At each .lune meeting our W.I. was entertained by these girls who explained the work their course had covered. Each girl was presented with a silver spoon on completion of six courses. In 1985. Sarah Boles was presented with a tray for having received her
