Now’ at the Mill of Kintail Gatehouse. These two projâ€" ects have been on the agen’ da of the Ramsay Women’s Institute (WI) for more than three years, so it was quite a feeling of accomplishment for the committee of Marilyn Snedden, Jill Moxley and Jean Macpherson, to see so many local people enjoy meeting each other and learning about the history of the area. Cindy Zorgel, Ramsay WI president, welcomed all, and provided a brief history of how Lady Tweedsmuir sponsored a contest for the best WI community history in the late 1940s, and the project grew until almost every WI branch across Canada bad a Tweedsmuir history. The Ramsay books provided the backâ€" ground information for the Blakeney project. In one of his last offi’ cial duties as mayor of Mississippi Mills, Al Lunney offered praise to the WI for recording the amazing hisâ€" tory of our area, and to the Submitted photo Associatibn for all the volâ€" unteer work they provide in the upkeep of the park, which is under the control of the Ministry of Natural Resources. The new Ramsay Ward councillors were also in the crowd. Zorgel and Lunney unveiled the plaque â€" a map with a directory show- ing the locations of more than twoâ€"dozen mills, dams and houses, as well as a brief history of the Hamlet. Snedden led a short tour over the new bridge in the park to the site of Abial Marshall's sawmill. Michael Dunn, technical producer of ‘Blakeney Then 5L Now', screened the DVD twice to accommodate the crowd at the Mill of Kintail Gatehouse, Other high- lights of the day included 50 years of scrapbooks and five volumes of Tweedsrnuir histories, as well as snacks prepared by W1 members. Many people ordered the DVD. With few ,places to hold a public event in Ramsay, everyone was most impressed with the meet; ing room at the Gatehouse. Those at the event seemed to have lots of fun judgâ€" ing by the laughter. More chances to get together in an informal setting is a goal for the future.
