As well a stopping piece at’the Ninth Line comer _ provided lodging for travelers heading north to the lumber camps. The village [called Norway Pine Falls, Shedden‘s Mills, Rosebank] finally received the present name of Blakeney in 1874.3'he railway passer: near the village in the early 1860's which helped move supplies so that by the late 1800's, Blakeney was a hive of activity with a- flour mill,a large woolen factory, at sawmill, cheese factory, Presbyterian Church and mense, general store & post ofï¬ce The ï¬rst bridge. constructed of logs, provided a vital crossing for the Bytown Road was reolaced with the present one in 19184 All that remains of the early industries are some stone foundations. Some of the hemee of early workers remain along with many new houses up on the hill creating a pleasant village atmosphere in what is now the Ramsey Ward of the Town of Mississippi Mills.
