'-5- Vl‘e Bruce Murray. For some years he was on a farm near Ripley. Among the biggest undertakings of the branch was the carrying on of the war work under the heading of the Patriotic Society during the fi ret World War. At the close of this war the Lucknow Womens' Instituteq sponsored the erectinn of the War Memorial at a cost of $2000.00. They also placed the spot lights at this cenetaph and for a manner of years paid for- the cost of the lighting. Also the Honour Roll which hangs in the Town Hall was sponsored by the local branch. The War Memorial was unveiled at an impressive service held November 11th 1929.31“: for a good many years the Institute here sponsored the sale of Vetoraft ’FWWHL/HL poppies and placed the tow wreath on cenetaph. _When the local branch of the Canadian Legion was organized, their members took over the sale of the poppies. The drinking fountain on Campbell street was erected in ' 1936 by the Lucknow Womens' Institute. During 1948, the local branch are having the streets or Lucknow fitted up with. signs bearing the names of each street in attractive black and white lettered signs.
