Lake Dore Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History searchable pdfa DEDICATED TO MRS. LESLIE DAVIS who so kindly donated this TWEEDSMUIR HISTORY BOOK to LAKE DORE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE that the past events of our community might be recorded and preserved for all time. We generally think of a dedicâ€" ation being for the deceased, but I have always felt it more appropy riate to give any bouquets we haV( to give while we are here to en- joy them. My earliest memories of Mrs. Davis (nee Hazel Guest) are childhood ones as while in the second class in 3.5. No. 5 Wilberforce, she came to our ‘ school to teach. Mrs. Leslie Davis Scarcely older than the eldest pupil, she assumed complete control of even the most unruly student. Her youth, which might have been a drawback, only endeared her to them as they felt she was one of them, and enabled her to see their attitude to learning with a youth's perspective. Several years later she became the bride of Leslie Davis and went to Rankin to reside there, and to ably assist in the management of the Davis Tele- phone Company. Three children were born to their union, one died in infancy. Sheldon, the only son, after finishing his education at Eganville High School, joined his father in business. Dawnalda, their daughter, upon graduation from Eganville High School attended Whitby Ladies' College and obtained her Nursing Science from Queen's University. In 1961 the Davis Telephone Company was bought by Bell Canada, giving Leslie and Hazel a well-earned rest. So it is with pleasure I dedicate this page to Mrs. Leslie Davis, a true friend to W.I., and wish her many, many years of health and Happiness. Alice Lett 05
