Mr. Kickley, a teacher presented the Section with a school bell. A woodshed was built and painted. (salaries in that era were $225.00 to $350.00 per year) A new porch was built onto the school. The school well was drilled. An organ was purchased for the school. A new floor was laid in the schoolhouse. Dr. James Little taught 3 years at the school before going to Dental College. 5.8. #5 school closed as the attendance was down to 6 or 7 pupils. Kairshea Women's Institute purchased school for $1.00 from Trustees of 5.5. #5 and received among other things, a piano and teachers desk. Desk later sold to Lloyd MacDougall for $10.00. The school bell was sold to Dr. Olser Lockhart for $50.00. Offer of Spence MacFarlane to buy woodshed for $20.00 was accepted. A new steel roof was installed by Lloyd Johnston and workers. First water on tap in hall was installed by J.R. and P.A. Murray. Water agreements were later signed with Jim Murray and water was piped across the road..June 1975. November â€" Water agreement with Stephen Moran. Nov. 30th. A new water main was laid from the property of David MacKinno east side of hall property. Kairshea W.I. paid $348.00 for digging of trench and plastic waLer pipe. The W.1. have paid each water supplier $20.00 per year. Doris Moss painted interior of hall. New yellowâ€"buff siding was put on exterior of hall. Sept. l976 members and husbands painted the wood trim outside in brown. June 1981 brown & yellow patterned carpeting was put down in the back part of hall..cost $172.27. Dr. Olser Lockhart who had purchased the School Bell in 1968 and had it at his cottage at Honey Harbour on Georgian Bay, kindly donated the bell to Bruce County Museum at buuthnmpton. They did not have a school bell and were pleased to receive it.
