The workshop was held at the Knights of Columbus hall and the ladies brought along a large landscaping display, , complete with miniature trees, diowering plans and working water fountain. ' The idea behind the workshop was to teach landscaping techniques to the participants who will in turn offer it to their own organi/a- trons and comn‘ttrnity groups. Besides making the yard and garden pleasing to the eye, there are other good reasons to landscape property. Depend- ing on the characteristics of plants used, landscaping can provide physical privacy, act as a windbreak and noise muffler, prevent land erosion or hide garbage pails. Thought must be given to the selection of trees, plants and flowers for yards and gar- dens to provide harmony. Tex- tures and colors also play an important role in landscaping. The instructors recom- mended that a landscaping plan, or perhaps several dif- ferent plans, be drawn up before beginning the actual project. The landscaping workshop was also presented in Lanark on Monday and in Stirling on Wednesday.
