Glasgow Women's Institute - Book 2 Vernon Kilgore (1968) LOT 18, CON. 9 First owner was John Spence, then John Affleck, who came from Lanark, with his wife, Lily Anderson. The house on this farm was destroyed by fire and a few years later the barn was also burned. New buildings were erected and the place made very attractive, as Mrs. Affleck was a lover of flowers, and they added much to the appearance of their home. She was also active in Women’s Institute work, being appointed President of the Glasâ€" gow Branch, when it was organized in 1913. She was also vice-president of the district from 1916 to 191$. Mr. Affleck was a very careful and industrious farmer, doing his work on schedule. They had a. family of five boys and three girls. Two of these boys, Robert Kay, and Raymond went overseas in the first war, and both lost their lives, John also enlisted, and after his return home went to Penticton, B.C. where he was an MD, He died from the effects of the war. After Mr. and Mrs. Affleck passed away , the farm was sold to John Crozier, a farmer in Admaston Twp. He and his wife Jessie Barr moved to this farm in 1940, also their daughter Lois, and her husband George McNab. They had a family of two boys and two girls. In 1958, they sold to Vernon Kilgore, and moved to Arnprior. It is a pleasure to note that this farm still looks very attractive to the passerby. A welcome is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Bob 'Wickman, new residents of the Glasgow area. Bob and Janet are moving in“) Mrs. Affleck and Margaret the Kilgore residence and Bob will take up a position this we- ek with Pfizer in Arnprior. Page 5 of165
