At the eastern part of the town- ship and near the mouth of the Madawaska River, stands the one intended village of Arnprior. It contains several houses, but with the exception of an inn, or tavern, they were all vacant and out of repair. The situation is excellent, and from its vicinity to the Madawaska river, could command an almost unlimited amount of water power for manufacturing and other purposes. Here at one time was a grist mill or sawmill. but now out of repair or rather in ruins. This property has lately fallen into the hands of a new and spirited proprietor, who it is reported will at once take advantage of its situa- tion and make improvements himself, and give encouragement to others. About one mile, lot 10, concession C (Mansfield) to the west of the above mentioned place and near to the leading road is a tract of many acres of land abounding l in,, iron, stone or iron ore, which has been declared by an eminent geologist to be of superior quality and worthy of the attention of capitalists.
