Glasgow Women's Institute Book 1 New United Church Dedicated Sunday at Glasgow - May 28 1950 Rev. H. S. Cooke, Beachburg Officiates at Opening and Dedication Service. Rev. R. G. Newman Pastor in Charge The Opening and Dedication services of the Glasgow United Church took place an Sunday, May 25th, at Glasgow Station with large numbers in attendance. The newly erected Church, built of cement block, and situated on a good site in the village, was for the moat part accomplished within the past twelve months. At the Opening Service in the morning, held at 11 AM, the Church auditorium was filled to capacity with an overflow congregation in the basement, which was served by a loud speaker. The Service commenced with an opening hymn by the Choir, We Gates, Lift Up Your Heeds” The presiding minister in charge of the Dedication* Rev. H. S. Cooke, of Beachburg, chair man of Renfrew Presbytery, standing at the door of the Church â€"with those assisting him made the prayer of Invocation. During the singing of the next hymn in which the congregation participated, the ministers slowly moved forward to the front of the building, and at the close of the singing, Mr. Cooke received the keys of the Church from Mr. Andrew Hamilton. chairman of the Board of trustees, and placed them on the table. Then followed prayers, scripture passages relating to the various funcâ€" tions of the Church, and Litany of Dedication with responses by the people, the minisâ€" ter in charge standing at the Communion Table, and Chose assisting him on either side. After the singing of the hymn, "Christ is Made the Sure Foundation.” Mr. Cooke pronounced the Words of Consecration, followed by the Blessing. The Service of Dedication being completed, the Ministers took their places on the platâ€"form behind the pulpit. Rev. J. I. MacKay, BJ5., D.D., of Montreal, Superintendent of Missions for Quebec and Eastern Ontario, Guest Speaker in tine morning, read the Scripture Lesson. Rev. R. G. Newman of Braeside minister of the Glasgow Church, made the Pastoral Prayer, and .gave the announcements. After extending a welcome to all present, and expressing a word of thanks to the visiting clergymen. Mr. Newmam read messages of greeting from Rev. G. A. Puttenham. of Trenton, former pastor; Rev. D. H. Woodhouse. of Arnprior, and Rev. H. W. Pointen and the congregation of Woodâ€" ville. Rev. H. S. Cooke brought greetings from the Presbytery and Dr. MacKay from the Church as a whole. The Glasgow Choir, with Mrs. Celesta Hamilton at the organ, ren- dered an anthem entitled, "‘Rejoice In The Lord.” The Subject of Dr. MacKay‘s address was "The Church's Task and Her Strength.” He stressed the worth of sacrifice, and of living for others. Excellent illustrations were given of those who find the true meaning of life by forgetting the claims of self in the interests of their fellowmen. After the sermon, Mrs. R. G. Newman sang a solo, "Bless This House”. The service ended with the singing of the hymn, "How Glorious Zion‘s _ Courts Appear’ followed by the Benediction pronounced by Rev. H. S. ' r Cooke.
