Glasgow Women's Institute Book 1 - February 1916 Last Friday evening the public hall at Glasgow Station was taxed to its full capacity and the audience kept in fits of laughter by the splendid programme which had been pre- pared by the young people of Glasgow. This took the form of a play entitled ‘No Tres- passing’, in which the skill and ability of those who took part could not be exceeded by amateurs. Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Myrtle McIntosh and her daughter "Peggy" (Miss Florence McIntosh) and "Barbara" (Miss Bessie Carswell) brought forth peals of laughter at the beginning of the play. These were by no means lessened when Bill Meader, (Mr. Wm Hamilton) was gently dumped upon the stage by his witty son Jim (Mr. Thomas Gilles- pie) or when his daughter Almeada Miss Lillian McMillan showed good examples of how a poor man’s daughter can ‘put on air’. Miss Lisle Irving (Miss Edna Case) gave the audience a new idea of country life, as would not be expected from a city girl, in he three fold part of ‘Evans Twins and Miss lrving’. Her father, Mr. Irving, (Mr. Lorne Wright) called forth loud applause in depicting how slow some fathers are to ‘catch on’, while Mr. Palmer (Mr. Robert Gillespie) worked betwixt and between to keep things in the balance. The young men surely ought to understand how to get a wife, although faint of heart, after witnessing the good examples portrayed by Mr. Edmund Raynor (Mr. Taylor Carswell) and Mr. Cleveland Tower (Mr. Murray Stewart.) The time beâ€" tween the acts .was filled in by Mr. John McMillan, who brought the audience back to their own minds again by selections splendidly rendered on the bagpipes. Although many of the audience were disappointed that Mr. McMillan did not appear oftener; all thoroughly enjoyed the music. After the programme the boxes were disposed of by auctioneer Mr. M. Stewart, who certainly knew his calling. The committee realized the splendid sum of $93.75. We wish to extend congratulations to the young people of 52 of 105
