Glasgow Women's Institute Book 1 Glasgow Station - March 21 1956 Glasgow WI Meets At the home of Mrs. J. W. Hamilton, where the present Glasgow Women's Institute came into being exactly 11 years ago to the day, the branch celebrated its anniversary in festive mood on the evening of March 21. Guests for the occasion were the memâ€" bers of Stewartville WI, some of whom had been members of the Glasgow branch in earlier days, and the get-together was a pleasant tone on both sides. The visitors were warmly welcomed by Mrs. Reid Campbell, president of Glasgow WI, and a "birthday party†style of program was enjoyed, under convenership of Mrs. W. K. Hamilton, assisted by Mrs. E. Barr and Mrs. R. A. Stewart. The program included several brainâ€"teasing contests, community singing, and an "Irish joke-pot". Mrs. A. Carswell contributed a humorous reading, "Conversation Pieceâ€, which caused a great deal of hilarity. The motto for the month, "We need you at our meetingsâ€, was taken by Mrs. R, Carswell- In developing her theme, Mrs. Carswell stressed the need for active, "working" members, regular in attendance at as many meetings of the branch as possible, if the organization were to continue to flourish. The crowning glory of the teaâ€"hour, following the meeting, was a handsome birthday cake, exquisitely decorated and adorned with 11 candles, the handiwork of Mrs. J. A, Young. Mrs. H, Scheel, a member of the Stewartville branch and a district vice- president, was asked to blow out the candles. She voiced the appreciation of the guest Institute for a friendly invitation and a delightful evening. I During a short businessj period, a nominating committee l was named, in the persons of Mrs. M. Stewart, Mrs. E. Barr, and Mrs. J. Cherry, to prepare a slate of officers to present at the annual meeting in April. 29 of 105
