Hamilton read an essay on "The Country Woman 5 Day*', which had re- cently won first place in a competition put on by the Women's Institutes of Ontario, and in the musical line were included a solo by Mrs. George Eady, a duet by Mrs. George McNab and Mrs. John Russett, and a quartette by Mrs. McNab Mrs. Russett, Mrs. R. A., Stewart and Mrs. W. H. Hamilton An amusing skit was out on by three of the members, Mrs. W.H. Hamilton taking part of Dr. Rich, Mrs. J. Cherry an office nurse and Mrs. R. A. Stewart as Hank Bumpkin. The singing of Christmas carols and the Christmas motto by Mrs. J. Crozier, of the lines: "Through passing years divide us, and loved ones drift apart, Christmas ties the cords of friendship close about the heart," added to the spirit of the holiday season. At the close of the program Christmas quiz contest, arranged by Mrs. Eady provided some brain teasing. Prizes for correct answers were handed out by Santa Claus him- self, impersonated by Mrs. J. A. Young. Gifts were then distributed from a beautifully decked Christmas tree and the evening closed with refreshments. Glasgow Station Women's Institute â€" Feb 1949 Mrs. R. A. Stewart was hostess to ; the Glasgow Women's Institute on the occasion of their February meeting, with a capacity attendance and ; a particularly interesting and unique program. The committee on agriculture and Canadian industries was is charge or the program for this month, and at the conclusion of the usual business session, Mrs. J. Cherry, convener of this committee, announced that arrangements had been made for the r entire group to pay a visit of inspection to the newly equipped plant of the Glasgow Co- operation Association Accordingly, outdoor clothing being speedily donned again, some 20 members wended their way across to the new warehouse, where they were met by W. H. Hamilton, president of the ; Co-operative, George Eady, a member of the building committee, and Jim Forrest, of the staff. An interesting hour was spent by the ladies going through the building, inspecting the newly installed machinery for grinding, mixing, and weighing feeds. elevating grain, etc. all of which was explained and demonstrated by Mr. Eady who was responsible for much of the planning and de- vising of the whole set-up. Mrs. A. Carswell, president of the W.|., expressed the ap- preciation of the ladies for the invitation and the interesting tour, and the hostess, Mrs. Stewart, added to the vote of thanks by extending an invitation to the three men to join the ladies in a cup of coffee at the conclusion of their meeting. The remainder of the program included a very informative paper by Mrs. Geo. McNab, assistant convener of the committee, on one of Canada's oldest Industry, the making of maple syrup and sugar. An amusing reading, 'Telling Time In the Country,- was given by Mrs. Cherry, and an- other Iaughable item was contributed by Mrs. W. H. Hamilton, supposedly a newsâ€"story mixâ€"up In a country weekly. The St. Valentine's element was provided by a charming poem, "Miss Gresham's Valentine," read by Mrs. A.
